Vision
"An authority that promotes best practice in the real estate profession in Botswana"
An Authority: REAC is empowered through the Act of Parliament to facilitate a best practice in the industry. The organisation is mandated to set standards and ensure compliance to best practice standards. The Council shall transform the industry to be in synch with Botswana's values of excellence as espoused by vision 2016.
Promote: The Council shall adopt all effective means of communication to achieve results especially information and public education so that the people of Botswana are not taken advantage of.
Best practice: REAC will promote best practice and ensure that the real estate professionals maintain international standards such as registration and compliance.
Mission
The Real Estate Advisory council mission reflects the organisation's reason for existence. The Mission emanates from the mandate of the organisation as defined in the Act. According to the Sub section 5.1 of the 2003 Act the Real Estate Advisory Council shall be responsible for regulating the activities and conduct of the registered real estate professionals
The Act mandates the Real Estate Advisory Council to deliver the following outcomes:
- Regulated industry
- Conducting the registration process for real estate professionals
The mission establishes what the Organisation does and for whom. The mission captures what is unique about the Real Estate Advisory Council and serves as a touchstone against which all other activities are judged. In line with vision 2016, and the ACT, the Real Estate Advisory council mission is as follows:
" We exist to register real estate professionals and regulate their conduct to safeguard the interest of Stakeholders in accordance with the Real Estate Professional Act of 2003"

Establishment of the Council
The Real Estate Advisory Council was established in terms of the Real Estate Professionals Act, 2003 in order to provide for the regulation of activities and conduct of the real estate profession in Botswana and other matters incidental thereto.
Composition of the Council
The Council comprises of nine members appointed as follows:
- Four members appointed by the Ministry of whom at least two are civil servants representing the Attorney Generals Chambers and the Minister respectively, and one an employee of the local authority;
- Three members of the Real Estate Institute of Botswana who are elected by the Institute and appointed by the Minister; and
- Two members from the private sector who are nominated by the Real Estate Institute of Botswana and appointed by the Minister.
The Chairman and Vice Chairman are elected by members from their number and appointed by the Minister. Members other than the Chairman are appointed to hold office for a period not more than 2 years.
Functions and Powers of the Council
- To register professionals admitted to practice under the Act;
- To maintain a register of the real estate professionals;
- To receive fees and penalties payable by professionals;
- To endorse the field of practice in which a registered professional is allowed to practice;
- To remove, suspend from the register names of a registered professional who are no longer entitled to practice;
- To restore to the register names of registered professionals;
- To appoint committees as the Council may determine and to delegate any of the council’s power to such committees;
- To impose penalties on registered professionals convicted of offences under the Act or of improper or disgraceful conduct;
- To institute inquiry into allegations of improper or disgraceful conduct by a registered professional;
- To utilize the funds of the council in a manner which may be necessary for the proper conduct of the functions of the council and keep and maintain proper books of accounts.
